Getting the “iCloud and iMessage accounts do not match” error popup on your iPhone/iPad can be really common especially if you are using multiple Apple IDs on your device. In such a scenario, you may very easily end up using different IDs for your iMessage and iCloud services, leading your Apple device to deliver the “iCloud and iMessage Accounts are Different” error message. This error leads to the non-functionality of the iMessage app i.e. you are not able to send messages using iMessage. But you don’t have to worry about this issue as it is fixable and I am going to show you the same in this fixing guide.
How to Fix the “iCloud and iMessage Accounts are Different” Error
There is a very simple fix that you can perform in order to fix this issue. But prior to discussing that fix, I would suggest you just patiently wait for 24 hours because in many cases, this error has been seen as a temporary error from Apple’s side that may get fixed automatically. However, if you are facing the error for quite a long time then you can follow these steps:
Step 1: Open the Settings app on your Apple device. There, tap on your Apple account name located at the top of the screen. This will open your Apple ID card.
Step 2: On your Apple ID screen, verify your email ID that is mentioned right below your name.
Step 3: Now, come back to the main Settings menu and tap on the Messages option.
Step 4: On the Messages screen, tap on the Send & Receive option in order to further verify the iMessage settings. You will see the Apple ID that is being used for iMessage mentioned there.
Step 5: Make sure that the Apple ID listed here is the same that was being used by iCloud that we verified in step 2 of this guide. If the Apple ID is different, you’ll have to sign out from the current Apple ID and will have to sign in with the same one accordingly. To do so, tap on your Apple ID listed in the iMessage settings.
Step 6: From the popup menu, tap on the Sign Out option to sign out from that Apple ID.
Step 7: Once you are signed out, your listed Apple ID will get replaced by the “Use your Apple ID for iMessage” option. Simply tap on that option.
Step 8: From the popup menu, tap on the Sign In option and you’ll get signed on with the same Apple ID that is being used in your main iCloud account.
Once this is all done, you should be good to go and there should be no “iCloud and iMessage accounts do not match” error message anymore displayed while using iMessage.
Bottom Line
So this is how you can rectify the “iCloud and iMessage accounts do not match” simply by making the iCloud and iMessage use the same Apple ID. The error very clearly indicates that the accounts on your iCloud and iMessage are different and hence to solve it you’ll have to make them match. The same has been described in detail in this fixing guide so that you can solve this issue.

glad to know that we were able to help you
Except I’m gettin this message when both accounts are already the same. Every thing thing I look up says the exact same as this article. What does one do when both iCloud and iMessage are already signed into the same account?
in iOS16, it automatically logs you into the account your phone is logged into in iCloud, and doesn’t give you the option to “Use Another ID”.
