While some are praising the new and improved iOS version, there is a handful of the apple community that is facing a good amount of bugs. One such bug is the “Last Line No Longer Available” pop while making calls.

Not only the new iPhones but older ones are also affected by this issue as it is iOS-related and has been reported by the user to occur after updating the iPhone.

Here I am going to explain this issue and also going to share 7 different ways by which you may be able to solve this issue.

What “Last Line No Longer Available” error is all about?

The “Last Line No Longer Available” error is an error message that pops up when the iPhone user is about to make a call for the first time after the activation of the phone.

This bug has been found to be related to the eSIM functionality mainly but has also been seen in a couple of dual SIM iPhones as well. As per what users have reported, the issue has been faced by them when they try to make a call from their default line via the recent logs of the Phone application of the iPhone.

The default line is the perfect SIM that you use to make calls and send messages to the contact that you haven’t saved in your contacts.

This is primarily an eSIM-based issue but there are a couple of old iPhone users with dual SIM options in their phones also facing this issue. This thing points to the possibility that this issue is in the iOS update.

iPhone users with even iOS 12 have reported a similar problem on Apple Communities and Reddit.

How to fix the “Last Line No Longer Available” error

If you are getting the Last Lone No longer Available error on your iPhone, then you can look at the following fixes I have provided below.

1. Restart the iPhone

The very basic and common troubleshooting to any software-related bug is to restart the device to reset the Operating System, making it work properly. If you are having the “Last Line No Longer Available” error then the first thing to do is to restart your iPhone.

To restart your iPhone long-press the power button (or the volume and power button) until you see the Power off slider. Slide it to the right and wait for the phone to turn off. When the phone is completely switched off, press and hold the power button until you see the Apple logo on the screen.

2. Re-insert the SIM Card

Despite having the dual SIM functionality, if you are using only one SIM on your phone to make calls, messages, and mobile data and that SIM is a physical one then you may want to remove and reinsert the SIM card.

To remove the SIM card, insert a SIM ejector pin into the hole of the SIM tray and pull it out of the phone. After that insert the SIM tray back into the phone and push it gently until you feel a click.

After re-inserting the SIM card, see if the issue is fixed.

Fix 3: Check for an update

Since this is a software-based issue there are chances that Apple may have rolled out an update to fix it. Hence, it would be a good practice to check for the software update on your iPhone before doing anything further.

To check if there is any pending software update, go to Settings > General > Software Updates. If there is any pending update then proceed further as per the on-screen instructions to apply it.

4. Enable/Disable Airplane mode

There are chances that you are facing the issue due to a network problem. And the best and easiest way to fix it is by resetting the SIM connection using Airplane mode. Simply turn on the Airplane mode and turn it off after a couple of seconds.

Doing this will make the phone get disconnected from the cellular network and re-connect with it again.

To access the Airplane mode, go to Settings, and toggle on/off the Airplane Mode switch accordingly.

You can also enable or disable the Airplane mode from the iPhone’s control center. To open the control center, swipe down from the top right of the display and tap on the plane icon to turn on the airplane mode and similarly turn it off.

5. Clear recent Call log

There are a couple of users who have reported that they have successfully resolved the issue just by clearing the call log of their iPhones. This is quite strange as the issue is related to software and eSIM but this is what it is. You can also try clearing your Recent Call log to get rid of the error.

In order to clear the call log open the Phone application and go to Recent > Edit > Clear. By doing this, a pop-up will appear, simply select the “Clear All Recents” option.

Note: Don’t take clearing the call log so lightly. This is because if you have recently received calls from an unknown number that is not in your contacts it will also get cleared. Hence save those unknown numbers as contacts on your phone before clearing the call log. 

6. Switch between SIM

If you use two SIM cards on your iPhone then you can try switching between the SIM cards for calling. If you have already set a default line for calls and messages then you can change it from the “i” button on the contact you want to make a call to.

Select the default number and then tap on the alternate number. If you are dialing an unsaved contact directly from the keypad then tap on the Primary phone number from the top of the screen and then select the other SIM.

7. Reset network settings

Lastly, you can try resetting your network settings on your iPhone. It doesn’t take a lot of time and also does not come with any type of data loss so why not give it a try?

To rest the network settings, open the Settings app, go to General, and then Transfer Or Reset iPhone. Now go to Reset and finally select the “Reset Network Settings” option from the popup.

So these were the ways that you can try to get rid of the “Last Line No Longer Available” error in the Phone app. If none of the above-mentioned fixes works for you then you should take your iPhone to Apple Support for a check.

This error is basically software-based and in newer iPhones, it is related to either the buggy update or the eSIM hence it should be resolved by an OTA update from Apple.
