What iPhones support the Separation alert?
Apple’s good old trick to limit some features to selected newer modes of their devices also applies here. Not all iPhones are supported to get the left behind alert notification whenever you get separated from an important Apple product.

Now, just like iPhones, some AirPods are not supported for the separation alert. Here’s the list.

Get alerts when AirPods Pro/Pro 2, or AirPods Max are left behind
To get the alert on your other Apple devices for the “left behind” AirPods can be enabled easily from Apple’s own Find My app. Here’s how you can do so.
Note: The steps mentioned below are applicable on both iPhones and iPad.
Step 1: Open the Find My app on your iPhone. It is an app that comes pre-installed but for some reason, if it is not available there, then you can simply download it from the App Store.
Step 2: In the Find My app, switch to the Devices tab to see the list of your Apple devices available for tracking.
Step 3: From the list of devices there, tap on your AirPods.
Step 4: Under the Notifications section, tap on the Notify When Left Behind option.
Step 5: Lastly, toggle on the switch available next to the Notify When Left Behind option.
And that’s it. You have successfully enabled the separation alert for your AirPods on your iPhone or iPad.
Absolutely yes. Like the 1st gen AirPods Pro, the 2nd gen also supports the separation alerts i.e. the “Notify When Left Behind” option.
In such a situation, you will get a Left Behind notification alert for your AirPods on your iPhone.
You can do this from the Find My app on your iOS device. Go to Find My > Devices > AirPods > Notify When Left Behind > turn on Notify When Left Behind.
