The highly anticipated 2nd generation of AirPods Pro is finally here. They come with a ton of new improvements like up to 2x Noice Cancellation, a new U1 chip for real-time audio processing, and a lot more. But AirPods are one of the priciest TWS as well. And losing them can be a real nightmare. Luckily, Apple offers to get alert notifications on your Apple devices when you leave them behind.
With that said, here is a descriptive guide on how you can set alert notifications if you leave your AirPods Pro or AirPods Pro 2 behind.
What iPhones support the Separation alert?
Apple’s good old trick to limit some features to selected newer modes of their devices also applies here. Not all iPhones are supported to get the left behind alert notification whenever you get separated from an important Apple product.
Here is a list of iPhones that are needed to be part of your Apple ecosystem to get the alert.
- iPhone 12
- iPhone 12 mini
- iPhone 12 Pro
- iPhone 12 Pro Max
- iPhone 13
- iPhone 13 mini
- iPhone 13 Pro
- iPhone 13 Pro Max
- iPhone 14
- iPhone 14 Plus
- iPhone 14 Pro
- iPhone 14 Pro Max
What AirPods are compatible with the Separation alert?
Now, just like iPhones, some AirPods are not supported for the separation alert. Here’s the list.
- AirPods 3rd gen
- AirPods Pro
- AirPods Pro 2nd gen
- AirPods Max
Get alerts when AirPods Pro/Pro 2, or AirPods Max are left behind
To get the alert on your other Apple devices for the “left behind” AirPods can be enabled easily from Apple’s own Find My app. Here’s how you can do so.
Note: The steps mentioned below are applicable on both iPhones and iPad.
Step 1: Open the Find My app on your iPhone. It is an app that comes pre-installed but for some reason, if it is not available there, then you can simply download it from the App Store.
Step 2: In the Find My app, switch to the Devices tab to see the list of your Apple devices available for tracking.
Step 3: From the list of devices there, tap on your AirPods.
Step 4: Under the Notifications section, tap on the Notify When Left Behind option.
Step 5: Lastly, toggle on the switch available next to the Notify When Left Behind option.
And that’s it. You have successfully enabled the separation alert for your AirPods on your iPhone or iPad.
Absolutely yes. Like the 1st gen AirPods Pro, the 2nd gen also supports the separation alerts i.e. the “Notify When Left Behind” option.
In such a situation, you will get a Left Behind notification alert for your AirPods on your iPhone.
You can do this from the Find My app on your iOS device. Go to Find My > Devices > AirPods > Notify When Left Behind > turn on Notify When Left Behind.
Bottom Line
And that’s it! This is how simple it is to set the separation alert on your iPhone or iPad for your AirPods. Enabling the Notify When Left Behind feature will ensure to notify you on your iPhone/iPad whenever you leave your AirPods behind or loses them accidentally. And with that said, I’ll see you in the next one with the hope that this guide would have helped you in resolving your issue and doubts.
