Note: The iOS 16, as of writing this fixing guide, is in the beta stage and hence the non-functioning of the Dept Effect feature can also be the result of a possible glitch/bug.

Fix 1: Restart your iPhone

Currently, as I said, iOS 16 is in beta and many of the early users of it are facing the Depth Effect not working issue due to the glitch in the OS. As reported by some users, the issue that they are facing is that sometimes the Depth Effect works and other times, not at all. And in order to fix this, there is also a shared workaround to simply restart the phone.

Restart iPhone X, 11, 12, 13

Step 1: Press and hold the power and either volume button until the power off slider appears.

Step 2: Drag the slider to switch the phone off.

Step 3: Press and hold the power button until the Apple logo appears.

Restart iPhone SE (2020), 8, 7 and 6

Step 1: Press and hold the power button until the power off slider appears.

Step 2: Drag the slider to turn off the iPhone.

Step 3: Press and hold the power button until you see the Apple logo to boot the device.

Fix 2: Set a Depth Effect supported wallpaper

If the right wallpaper is not selected for the lock screen, the Depth Effect is not gonna work. Since the Depth Effect is a segregation between the foreground and the background of the image, hence it is important that the wallpaper that you are using is also having a properly distinguishable foreground and background.

Fix 3: Enable the Depth Effect feature

Fix 4: Don’t use lock screen widgets

Apple has also provided the option to add widgets to the lock screen. But these widgets can only be placed right below the lock screen clock. And it is obviously needed in order to make the widgets visible as if the Dept Effect is active in such a scenario, the widgets will get completely hidden behind the wallpaper foreground/subject. Depth Effect is not available for iPads

If you are thinking that iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 are just the same and hence are trying to have the Depth Effect wallpaper on the lock screen of your iPad, then let me tell you that it is not possible. At least not at the time, I am writing this fixing guide. The Depth Effect for the lock screen wallpaper is only available for iPhones that are running the iOS 16. The iPadOS 16 is not decorated with this feature currently. I’ll be updating this guide if it also gets for iPads in the coming future.
